Medium voltage (MV) cables represent a category defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), characterized by a nominal voltage between 1 kV and 100 kV. However, there is some ambiguity regarding where the medium voltage range begins and ends, depending on the country, standardization body, and type of system used. Historically, engineers only referred to low voltage and high voltage. The concept of medium voltage was introduced later as voltage levels increased and the need arose for a broader classification range, which now often includes extra-low and extra-high voltage as well.
